3D ART (Expo 2022)

Indoor Apartment Hideout

Jacob McKenney, Artist/Designer, Senior

I made this for a college project using Maya. Everything in the image was modeled in about 2 months. While my focus is more on concept art and design, this 3D project really helped me learn a lot about 3D modeling and how it can be used for game development, while also improving my environment/level designing skills.

Outdoor Christmas Islands

Jacob McKenney, Artist/Designer, Senior

Cloud-9 Player Character

Jacob McKenney, Artist/Designer, Senior

This was my first ever character model and rig. It was made for the main character of a group game project called Cloud-9. Overall, the design and modeling process took about 3 weeks. I took a lot of inspiration from 80s/90s scifi media, especially anime and video games. While my focus is more on design and concept art, it was a huge learning experience for me to be able to model out a character that I designed.

Cloud-9 Blaster

Jacob McKenney, Artist/Designer, Senior

A scifi themed blaster gun for the main character of a group game project called Cloud-9. Overall, the design and modeling process took only a few hours. In the game, the gun glows with blue lights. I took a lot of inspiration from 80s/90s scifi media, especially anime and video games. While my focus is more on design and concept art, being able to model out a weapon I designed was a big learning experience for me.

Lady of the Woods

Amaya Phillippi, 3D Artist, Junior

I’m Amaya, a junior who’s studying Graphic Design and Media Arts. This was my first semester working with a 3D program like Maya. I love to work on character design in my free time so I went ahead and made a model of one of my characters. I primarily illustrate but thought that expanding and trying 3D would benefit me since I wish to go into concept and/or character design.

3-D Model of a Post Modern Futuristic Sniper Rifle

Gage Lurvey, Sophomore, Beginner 3-D Artist;

This project was one of our finals for 3-D modeling course. I chose to model a weapon as it has a lot of organic shapes that would be challenging my skills that I had learned through the course. This work connects to my career goals as I want to learn different aspects of art, including 3-D design. It also was a personal goal of mine to give 3-D modeling a try and bring ideas to life through creation.

Valkyrie

Lara Dionson: 3D Sculptor & Modeler

I’m Lara, a 3D sculptor. I made Valkyrie as my second ever project on the Zbrush software. Character designing has been a long time passion of mine, and 3D is a newly explored and favored platform to express my art. After having learned Zbrush for 7 months, I came to the decision of pursuing 3D modeling as a career choice. My dream job is to make 3D models for an indie game studio.

Dragon City

Lara Dionson: 3D Sculptor & Modeler

Dragon City is a compilation of very recent artworks of mine using Zbrush. It has three high poly models and several low poly models set in the cyberpunk theme. Honestly, I just wanted an excuse to render a dragon and a tiefling. This project was a joy to create, and I’ve learned many things in the process (my first time adding UV maps!). I hope to make more pieces like this in the future.

A Modified Steam Train

Dalon Williams, Creator, Junior

This model was inspired by the steam train LNER Class A4. I have been interested in trains ever since I was a kid. Growing up watching and playing with model trains. Eventually wanting to become an engineer and learn to drive trains for subways or delivering shipments. Although my dream has changed, I still love trains to the bottom of my heart and have always wanted to work for N3V games or Dovetail, which produces realistic model simulation games. I love driving trains and learning more about them and these companies have been a favorite and inspiration of mine. So I created a model that defines train history with a bit of some simplistic changes to express the love for trains and transportation but also how I am just starting my journey in 3D modeling. Hoping to expand.

THANKS FOR VIEWING

Thanks to our Sponsors and the College of Arts and Communication for supporting our

MAGD Expo 2024

We hold multiple game jams a year where students across the program collaborate in 48 hour sessions to complete mini projects.

Students earn credit with our Game Jams course held multiple times a semester.

Students design their own senior projects. Kalei shows her UI/UX design to Dean Hayes.

Our students can gain experience making games in virtual reality.

Our students also gain experience creating games for alternative controls. Luke and Nicole are showing off their mid-air haptic feedback rhythm game.

Motion capture can bring your VR, AR, Motion Graphic to life. We have a new suit- and marker-based system.

Our annual summer camp brings in future students from 8th grade to seniors in high school to campus for a week of game development.

Nathan creates sound and audio for games. Courses in electronic music help make that happen.

Students can bring their own drawing tablets or check out equipment for their use.
